Happy Birthday, Sarah Melanie White! Heard in a range of combos, (oft with the wonderful Nick Hamlyn), Sarah’s vocal, mandolin, guitar, guitar-banjo, tenor ukulele and bouzouki talents are integral to the sound of Allison Crowe and Band. On the group’s newest albums, she’s heart of this timeless folk/country performance:
Nurtured by the Canadian provinces of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia, when not making music on-stage, Sarah’s hard at her longtime gig as a theatre stage manager and technician (earning her BFA. in Theatre Stagecraft from MUN’s Grenfell Campus) and is a main-stay of Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador (TNL)’s cherished production family.
Getting the party started, Cohencentric blogmeister Allan Showalter, recently tips a hat:
“ ‘I hope that life without a chaperone is what you thought it'd be
I hope your brother's El Camino runs forever
I hope the world sees the same person that you always were to me
And may all your favorite bands stay together’
I've always been moved by those lyrics from Dawes’s Your Favorite Bands, and the cover by Allison Crowe & Band, featuring Sarah Melanie White, is remarkable.”
