Another carol, or Cantique de Noël, that came together gloriously, like Madeleines et café à la française (in France) and/or peanut butter + chocolate (in America), is “O Holy Night”. Placide Cappeau’s Christmas poem, “Minuit, chrétiens, c'est l'heure solennelle” was set to music by fellow Frenchman, composer, Adolphe Adam in 1847. Eight years later, American minister and abolitionist John Sullivan Dwight anglicized the lyrics.
