Growing up having the chance to partake in a thriving, artistic community can make all the difference. 

Adam Brake and Allison Crowe are artistic people who know this from first-hand experience. 

“When I was a kid, I was lucky, I was surrounded by music all the time and we had a sort of Arts Alive program and things like that,” Crowe explains. “And it’s really good to have places where kids can feel free to express themselves and be who they are.” 

Meanwhile, Brake started in the Theatre NL (TNL) youth theatre program in Corner Brook. 

“I started in the program (in) 1998 and it was life changing for me,” he says. “It showed me a world where my personality made sense. It showed me a world where my creative expression made sense and, more than anything, it made me feel like I was being heard and I could express myself in a productive way.” 

So, when it was announced TNL would be closing its youth theatre program in Corner Brook, they knew that gap needed to be filled…
