The Singalong series ventures now to snowy mountain communities of Austria’s Salzburgerland where the carol ‘Silent Night” or “Stille Nacht” is born. In 1816, in the village of Mariapfarr, a young curate, Joseph Mohr, wrote a poem of hope and faith, “Silent Night! Holy Night!”. Schoolteacher and organist, Franz Gruber, of Arnsdorf, later added the music & melody to Mohr’s words, (adding an organ part in Hallein), and the song’s first performed for Mass on Christmas Eve 1818 in Oberndorf.
Taking off our snowshoes, Allison Crowe’s classic album “Tidings” inspires anew – for fun, now, a series of piano instrumentals celebrating music for the season & all time.
Allison on the ivories, and each voice giving our own breath of life to the song lyrics.
